TESTIMONY

Dian Puspitasari, alumni of SMAN 1 Sangatta, East Kutai

Participating in Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) programs has given me plenty of valuable knowledge and experience. In the program, we were introduced to the business world, taught how to run a student company and their issues, working together to find a solution for the company’s progress and interact as well as communicate well both among members and with external parties. Even though BARSA (BARA SMANSA) Company is a small student company run by students, who are still green about business, yet with high spirit and good teamwork, BARSA Company at that time was one of the student companies having a stock value up to 500 %, which is one our proudest achievements.

Not only that, from PJI I gained valuable experience, namely become a representative in the International Trading with John Cabot’s Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga, Canada. Other than introducing native products of the Dayak tribe, I was also given the opportunity to introduce one of the Dayak traditional dance called Enggang.

I am currently working in a mining company as a geologist. Even though my work is not related with the knowledge I gained from PJI, I am still able to apply the knowledge and experience I got from my training with PJI. One of them is leadership. Becoming a leader is not just about leading a group of people, because in our training, we were taught how to become a good leader and able to face challenges, which is a very useful skill for me.

My hope for the future is that through PJI program many young entrepreneurs are born, full of creativity and produce incredible business. Young business people, who are hoped to be improve the economy of East Kutai. Not forgetting to thank PT Kaltim Prima Coal and Prestasi Junior Indonesia, as well as SMAN 1 Sangatta, who have given invaluable experience while I was in PJI’s program.

Dian Puspitasari (MT Geologist - PT Banpuindo)

GE SUPPORTS JA JOB SHADOW IN YOGYAKARTA

GE Indonesia and PT Kereta Api Indonesia and PT Balai Yasa held a JA Job Shadow program for 125 students of vocational schools in Yogyakarta. The JA Job Shadow program is part of the realization of a GE donation delivered by GE Transportation CEO Lorenzo Simonelli in the form of appreciation of good performance. JA Job Shadow was attended by the Director of Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) Robert Gardiner and Head of Government Relations of GE Transportation Andy Nahil Gultom. Andy says GE fully supports educational quality improvement in Indonesia. The students had an opportunity to visit PT KAI Daop VI and Balai Yasa, where they received knowledge regarding the professional working environment. "The focus of GE Job Shadow is the orientation of the actual work in the industrial sector for the students. The emphasis is on the interest of the students such as in PR or other structural job, as well as knowing the actual work in the field”, stated Andy Gultom. This was the very first venture PJI has had with a Government owned company and the outcome was a great success.
