Sep 13, 2016 – On the 2 and 3 September some 125 students attended the Microsoft Office in Jakarta to conduct a Hackathon supported by professionals from the Microsoft Innovation Center and Microsoft Student Partners. Students constructed applications focusing on games from ideas generated over a period of three months with assistance from these volunteers. This is known as a Hackathon with the principle objective of developing students skills and confidence. The aim is to provide young Indonesians with knowledge and build confidence in computer science enabling them to consider this as an option for future career paths. This undertaking is part of the larger YouthSpark project which has also focused on female computer literacy (known as DigiGirlz) and teacher training with an overriding commitment to introduce students (and teachers) to STEM education.
