Jun 22, 2021 – The second batch of the Youth Entrepreneurship Education Program (YEE) was officially launched by Prudential Indonesia, Senior Government Representatives from Jayapura City and Regency, and Prestasi Junior Indonesia on 22 June 2021. Replicating a successful implementation of Batch 1 beginning in 2019, PJI is mobilizing a comprehensive set of experiential education strategies which engage up to 60 young Papuans. They will be provided with skills and knowledge to begin, build, and sustain small business operations based upon the utilization of local resources. We were able to track the revenue generated by our previous beneficiaries over a period of six months and found that their businesses had added almost USD100,000 to the local economy in late 2019/early 2020. An objective for the candidates of this second batch is to apply best practices and augment these by lessons learnt to exceed the value of previous successes. Our selection of candidates and subsequent training has begun and involves remote sessions and also the efforts of three Papuan coaches permanently based in Jayapura. This second batch is a little more challenging as, due to Covid 19, much of our work has been undertaken via zoom meetings however we have been pleasantly surprised with the sustained engagement of a solid group of beneficiaries who represent the current batch. With Prudential Indonesia support we are looking forward to another impactful project which assists in enabling young Papuans to overcome economic exclusion.
