AWS Girls' Tech Day: Activating Future Innovators

Oct 12, 2024 – Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted the 2024 AWS Girls’ Tech Day, an inspiring program aimed at empowering young women to explore the vast opportunities in the technology sector. On Saturday, October 12, 2024, 300 female students from six high schools in Karawang and Cikarang gathered for an exciting day of learning, collaboration, and skill-building. Now in its third year, this collaboration continues to provide young women with the opportunity to develop essential skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), with a focus on coding and computational thinking.

The event featured talks by prominent female leaders from the tech industry, including Niki Tsuraya Yaumi, Co-Founder and COO of Goers; Anantya Van Bronckhorst, Co-Founder of Think.web; and Dhyoti Basuki-Ramdhani, Head of Communications for AWS Indonesia and Philippines. These leaders shared their personal journeys in the tech world, offering valuable insights into career paths, opportunities, and the importance of perseverance in a rapidly evolving industry.

In addition to the talks, the students participated in the Rangers Games Coding Tournament, an interactive activity designed to reinforce coding and problem-solving skills. This hands-on experience introduced the students to programming fundamentals and computational thinking through unplugged coding games, helping them gain a practical understanding of technology. The tournament fostered creativity and teamwork, encouraging the students to collaborate in a fun and engaging environment.

Supported by the West Java Provincial Education Office and BAPPEDA (West Java Provincial Regional Development Planning Agency), AWS Girls’ Tech Day aligns with regional efforts to increase access to technology education for youth. These organizations continue to prioritize initiatives that empower young women to thrive in the digital era and promote gender equality in the tech sector.

AWS Girls’ Tech Day is part of AWS InCommunities’ global signature program, which seeks to inspire and empower girls and young women to pursue careers in technology. By offering hands-on workshops and exploring exciting career opportunities, the program aims to ignite students’ imaginations and encourage them to think big, helping to create a more inclusive and diverse tech industry for the future.
