Students Step Up to Fight Dengue in the 2025 ADVA/JA Dengue Slayers Challenge

May 10, 2025 – With a mission to spread awareness and develop mitigation strategic on dengue epidemic, especially in Asia, ADVA has joined forces with Junior Achievement (JA) Asia Pacific to launch the Dengue Slayers Challenge

Launched in March 2025, the Dengue Slayers Challenge in Indonesia calls on students to develop practical, innovative solutions to help combat the spread of dengue. The program has engaged 62 student teams who submitted their proposals in response to one of three thematic goals: Defeat the Enemy (eliminating mosquito breeding sites), Educate the Realm (raising community awareness), or Protect the Ecosystem (targeting only Aedes aegypti mosquitoes without harming the broader environment).

After a rigorous selection process, 10 finalist teams have been chosen to present their solutions in the national finals. These presentations represent not only the creativity and research capabilities of Indonesian students but also their commitment to being part of real-world public health solutions.

The event culminated in the announcement of DB-DOOM from SMAN 8 Jakarta as the national winners, who would go on to represent Indonesia at the 8th Asia Dengue Summit 2025 in Manila, Philippines.

Although they did not take home the top award at the Asia Pasific finals, the experience was incredibly enriching. They gained valuable insights, expanded their regional perspectives, and built lasting connections with fellow youth changemakers across Asia. Most importantly, they returned home with a renewed spirit to continue making a difference in their communities.
