Nov 19, 2022 – The day was successful beyond our expectations! On Saturday 19 November PJI and AWS Indonesia stage the very first Girls Tech Day at State High School 2 Bekasi. We invited 100 young women from State High School 2 and State Vocational School 2 Bekasi to attend a very special day which promoted female engagement in the tech industry. This began with an inspirational talk with two great female role models – Josefhine Chitra, Sr. Manager Public Affairs & Strategy Go-Jek and Windy Natriavi, who has her own start up known as AwanTunai. These business-women proved to be great role models for all attendees and they were really able to ‘spark’ a consideration amongst the students of advancing into higher education via a digital technology track, joining the workforce within a digital technology role, or even beginning their own small business enterprise and integrating technology in multiple facets of its operation.
After this inspiring talk show the students were engaged in a very practical undertaking. With the support of STEMpedia, representing by Ayush Jha (all the way from India) the students were provided with an opportunity (in groups of three) to establish their own robotics through Pictoblox and Quarky. They began doing so by completing basic coding which provided them with the means to create a device which was mobilized via the command of the students. It was great to see all of these students intently involved in developing their own devices and, by doing so, build their self-confidence. This not only the first Girls Tech Day – more to come! A great investment in support of young women’s involvement in the Tech Industry in the future.
