Jul 8, 2023 – A team of committed judges were asked to undertake a difficult task on Saturday 8th July 2023. Beginning at 8am and finishing at 6pm six judges assessed the performance of 15 student companies (five each from Medan, Surabaya, and Denpasar) and selected 6 to move forward to the final competition scheduled for September 2023. The students have established and operated their school based micro-enterprises over a period of six months as part of our comprehensive partnership with the Z Zurich Foundation and Zurich Indonesia. This initiative, which stretches across the archipelago, is known as the Zurich Entrepreneurship Program (ZEP) and is the first year of a three-year undertaking supported by dedicated business volunteers from the Zurich Indonesia office.
The judges were challenged by the quality of the student company participants, together with their products and processes, from each location. Some great business ideas and implementation strategies were communicated to the jury members via business presentations, interview sessions and company reports. The winning teams from each location represented the following schools;
Medan
4TheBetter SC – SMAN 4 Medan
LittlerThings SC – SMA Panca Budi Medan
Surabaya
Esteam SC – SMKN 5 Surabaya
Loistava SC – SMAN 16 Surabaya
Denpasar
Ixora SC – SMAN 2 Denpasar
Verve SC – SMAN 16 Denpasar
In addition, multiple individuals were recognized as best President and Vice Presidents. It was heartening to witness the enthusiastic response of the students to the ZEP initiative and also the engagement of local education authorities from each region. On behalf of the many students benefitting from the JA Company, JA Job Shadow, and JA Financial Literacy programs, Prestasi Junior Indonesia wishes to thank the team from Zurich Indonesia for an outstanding commitment to volunteering and supporting young Indonesians understanding of entrepreneurship and the world of business. Our work would not be possible without the generous grant from the Z Zurich Foundation. In fact, the grant stimulated school-based business operations which, cumulatively, achieved a revenue of more than USD13,000 over a period of less than 6 months – from the perspective of young Indonesians, this is a lot of money! It is Prestasi Junior’s intention to replicate the 2023 success in additional schools and locations (Makassar) during our stage 2 implementation using this grant.
