Jan 5, 2025 – Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Prestasi Junior Indonesia are once again launching STEAM Capacity Building, an educational program designed to enhance teachers’ competencies in delivering a curriculum based on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Following the success of the first phase in 2022-2023, which focused on basic coding and robotics, the program is now entering its second phase (2024-2025) with an emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
Through the Second Phase of STEAM Capacity Building, AWS and PJI are committed to equipping teachers and students with a deep understanding of AI and ML fundamentals and their practical applications. This program is designed to develop essential digital skills, prepare young generations for the digital transformation era, and ensure they become outstanding talents with strong professional ethics in the future workforce.
As the initial step in implementing the program, AWS and PJI hosted the Launch and Teacher Training Event at éL Hotel Bandung on January 3-5, 2025. This event was attended by 40 IT teachers from 40 high schools and vocational schools across West Java, who will pioneer the integration of AI and ML learning in their respective schools.
During this training session, teachers had the opportunity to explore the provided STEAM-based curriculum and learning tools, simulate teaching practices to be implemented in classrooms, consult with experts on teaching materials and methodologies, and collaborate with fellow teachers to share experiences and innovative ideas for teaching AI and ML. Additionally, the training included a special session led by AWS volunteers introducing Amazon Bedrock, a service that enables the development and deployment of generative AI models for various business and educational applications.
Following the training, the teachers will implement the AI and ML curriculum for more than 2,400 students in their respective schools. Students will learn AI fundamentals, apply them in real-world projects, and develop critical thinking and analytical skills. The program will culminate in an AI Hackathon, where students will compete to create innovative AI-based solutions applicable to everyday life.
With the launch of the second phase of STEAM Capacity Building, AWS and PJI aim to accelerate the adoption of AI and ML technology in the education sector and open more opportunities for students to develop digital competencies relevant to the future job market.
