Jan 15, 2025 – January 2025 was special for 15 teachers from West Java. As a culminating activity of the AWS supported Capacity Building for Teachers and Students project PJI was proud to be able to select those teachers who had excelled throughout implementation to participate in a very special STEM focused study tour. Funded by Mr Arief Rachmat from TAP, teachers were hosted by PJI’s partner, the National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University. Over three days the teachers experienced STEM at work by visiting the Bernina Corporation Regional Headquarters and participating in workshops which emphasized the importance of STEM in Education. The Science Museum was another stop in the tour followed by workshops at another business operation – Green Loops provided a workshop for teachers focusing on the latest science of food production.
The visit top Singapore marked the end of a comprehensive undertaking involved 100+ teachers from high schools located in West Java. Over several years teachers were engaged in workshops, delivered by the National Institute of Education and PJI, in support of the integration of digital technology strategies and tools within the delivery of curriculum content for STEM focused lessons. Teachers and schools were supplied with BBC Microbits and Grove Inventor Kits in support of this new undertaking. New lesson plans were developed which incorporated STEM as a key consideration of delivery or content. The selected teachers responded magnificently to this opportunity and it was the 15 best of these teachers who travelled to Singapore. PJI thanks our friends from Nanyang Technological University, under the leadership of Professor Tang Wee, and Pak Hidayah from AWS who maintains his faith in PJI’s ability to make a real impact.
