Green Innovation Camp 2025: Students Design STEM Solutions for a Sustainable Future

Jul 31, 2025 – Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI), in collaboration with ExxonMobil Indonesia, successfully hosted Green Innovation Camp 2025, showcasing ten outstanding projects from high school students across Banten Province. The program empowered youth to design STEM-based solutions to environmental challenges, combining innovation, sustainability, and 21st-century skills.

This final competition was the culmination of a five-month learning journey that involved 444 students from 61 schools. Through a series of design thinking workshops, project ideation, mentoring sessions with professionals from ExxonMobil and PJI, and prototype development, students gained both technical knowledge and real-world problem-solving experience. Out of 77 proposals submitted, 27 teams advanced to the semifinals, and 10 teams presented their innovations before the judges in the grand finale.

Aligned with Indonesia’s national curriculum, teachers also played a key role as facilitators, guiding students in project-based learning that connected classroom knowledge with real-world applications.

Education for a Sustainable Future

Pribadi Setiyanto, Chairman of the Executive Board of Prestasi Junior Indonesia, emphasized the importance of connecting education with real-life challenges:

“Green Innovation Camp equips young people with critical thinking, innovation, and sustainability awareness. Meaningful education does not stop at theory but links science and technology with reality. Through this program, students, teachers, and industry partners collaborate to create tangible solutions for environmental challenges in their communities.”

The urgency of this approach is reinforced by the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, which lists sustainability and environmental awareness among the top ten most in-demand skills in the global workforce. The report also projects the creation of 170 million new jobs by 2030, while automation and AI may replace 92 million existing roles—highlighting the need for youth to master both technology and sustainability to thrive in the future job market.

Collaboration for Impact

Fiksi Sastrakencana, Consumer Manager of PT ExxonMobil Lubricants Indonesia (PT EMLI), reaffirmed the company’s commitment:

“Green Innovation Camp 2025 reflects ExxonMobil’s support for government-led education initiatives, especially in our operating areas in Banten. We hope this program strengthens students’ critical thinking and innovative capabilities in STEM fields.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Lukman, Acting Head of the Banten Provincial Office of Education and Culture, praised the initiative:

“This program provides a valuable learning platform aligned with Indonesia’s education transformation. Project-based learning and industry collaboration prepare students with the competencies required for the future. We hope Green Innovation Camp can expand to reach more schools and spark new innovations from Banten’s youth.”
