Empowering One Million Indonesian Students through Cha-Ching Financial Education

Oct 7, 2025 – Prestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI), in collaboration with Prudential Indonesia, Prudence Foundation, and JA Asia Pacific, celebrated a major milestone of the Cha-Ching Curriculum Programme, which has now reached over one million elementary school students across 60 cities and regencies in Indonesia.

Held at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, the celebration titled Cha-Ching One Million: Empowering Futures through Financial Education” recognized the dedication of teachers, schools, and education authorities in advancing financial literacy education for children. The event was also supported by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Education for Primary and Secondary Education.

Celebrating a Shared Commitment to Financial Literacy
Since 2017, PJI has implemented the Cha-Ching Curriculum in collaboration with Prudential Indonesia and Prudence Foundation. The programme introduces the four fundamental money management concepts—Earn, Save, Spend, and Donate—through fun and engaging classroom activities, songs, videos, and games.

Over the past eight years, the programme has expanded rapidly, supported by more than 31,500 trained teachers from 20,000 schools, who have brought financial literacy lessons to life for children in diverse regions—from large urban centers to rural communities.

“Financial literacy isn’t just about counting money, but about instilling habits, values, and mindsets that shape financial independence and resilience. This milestone reminds us that the achievement of one million Cha-Ching beneficiaries is the result of collective commitment—of teachers, schools, parents, government, and the private sector—working together to empower Indonesia’s young generation,” said Pribadi Setiyanto, Chairman of the Executive Board of Prestasi Junior Indonesia.

A Journey of Innovation and Impact
The Cha-Ching Programme was first introduced in Sidoarjo in 2017 with printed learning materials. By 2021, the initiative had expanded to Jakarta, Trenggalek, and Blitar, reaching more than 166,000 students and 4,700 teachers.

When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted in-person learning, PJI and Prudential Indonesia launched a digital version of Cha-Ching, combining videos, interactive quizzes, and visual storytelling to make financial literacy lessons more engaging and accessible for both teachers and students.

This digital transformation not only strengthened collaboration with the Ministry of Education and local education offices but also enabled the programme’s nationwide expansion, reaching 1 million students within just four years of implementation.

Government and Industry Support
In his remarks, Arif Jamali, S.Pd., M.Pd., Special Staff to the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education for Learning and Excellent Schools, emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing financial literacy nationwide.

“The government places education as a key pillar in shaping an educated and financially literate society. Cha-Ching demonstrates that financial literacy can be integrated into the curriculum in a fun and relevant way, supporting the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision,” he said.

Karin Zulkarnaen, Chief Customer & Marketing Officer of Prudential Indonesia, added, “Equipping children with financial literacy from an early age is a long-term investment in creating an independent and resilient society.”

Meanwhile, Nicole Ngeow, Executive Director of Prudence Foundation, remarked, “We are proud to celebrate this milestone in Indonesia, made possible by the Ministry of Education’s support and the dedication of teachers and schools nationwide.”

The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Collaborative Pathways for Sustainable Financial Literacy Education”, where education leaders, regional education offices, and teachers shared experiences and strategies to strengthen the sustainability of financial literacy education in Indonesia.
